PROCESS
The child receiving their first bike is at the centre of each ‘#MyFirstBike™ !’ experience. The bike is not presented ordinarily. We ensure that children receive their bikes extraordinarily and leave the venue with a sense of hope, self-worth, pride, and motivation.
We bring unassembled bikes to the program venue. The children (recipients of the bikes) team up with their parents, teachers, friends, corporate leaders, volunteers, and management of their charity organization to assemble their bikes.
Our technicians carefully examine each bike, ensuring complete quality and safety before presenting it to a child.
LEARNING SPIRIT
Service Learning philosophy is at the heart of the ‘#MyFirstBike™ ‘ movement. The high-energy, high-impact ‘#MyFirstBike™ !’ experience builds, fortifies, and strengthens your team fabric. The experience touches their hearts – while putting smiles on the faces of the children receiving your generous donation in the form of their first bicycle. Your team creates a memorable day filled with a more profound sense of satisfaction, collaboration, harmony, and achievement.
BENEFITS FOR CHILDREN
Apart from receiving the bike’s gift, children also embrace an invaluable learning experience encompassing the following:
- Belief in their self-worth results in enhanced self-confidence and self-belief
- Dreams and inspiration to act and take charge of their life
- Developing hope to make things possible and following a role model for success
WHY A ‘LIVE’ BIKE BUILDING EXPERIENCE?
Building un-assembled bikes, including children in teams, serves two purposes:
- Children feel self-worth when they see their parents, teachers, and corporate leaders building bikes for them. Witnessing those seniors sitting on the ground and working harder to assemble a bike for them makes them believe in their importance. This does contribute to building their self-esteem.
- We also aim to sow the seeds of ‘teamwork’ in kids’ minds. Teams involved in bike building act as role models for these kids to learn the fundamentals of teamwork. Children learn at a very early age that no one is as smart as all of us.
WHO CAN RECEIVE A BIKE?
To qualify as ‘#MyFirstBike™ ‘ receivers, the children have to meet the following criteria:
- Age 7-12 years
- Don’t possess a bike already
- Have an underprivileged background
For the children involved in ‘#MyFirstBike™,’ typically ages 7-12, this will be their first bicycle! We partner with charities to reach out to deprived children. We’re also happy to partner with a local charity of your choice.
The sponsoring organization can also choose to distribute the bicycles among the deserving children of their non-management staff, factory/plant workers, or to the charity of their choice.
SERVICE LEARNING
Service learning is a unique philosophy behind every ‘#MyFirstBike™ !’ experience. Service-learning is a learning strategy integrating meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities.
Based on Service-Learning, our unique team-building programs offer participants a chance to address team development issues while simultaneously addressing communities’ concerns, needs, and hopes.
Through Service-Learning, corporate citizens are encouraged to develop, refine, and apply teamwork skills to solve real-life problems in the community. The service they perform makes them actively contributing citizens and community members. Participants leave the venue as a ‘one-team’ with a deeper sense of achievement and fulfillment.
